 Making a Battery out of Lemons?

Are you looking high and low for a battery and all you can find are a bunch of lemons? Well you can call off the search dogs because turning a lemon into a battery is no magic trick, just some regular, everyday, green science.
What you need:
* 2 lemons
* 2 BIG paper clips
* 2 pennies
* 3 copper wires
* 1 digital clock
* 1 knife
* 1 pair of scissors
* 1 parent or adult
What you need to do:
1. Grab a parent or adult for a helping hand.
2. Attach a paper clip to the end of one of the copper wiresand set aside.
3. Attach a penny to your second wire (by wrapping the wire around the penny) and set aside.
4. Attach another penny to the final wire. Attach the last paper clip to the other end of this wire and set aside. So just to recap: you should have one
penny attached to a paper clip by a wire, one paper clip attached to a wire, and one penny attached to another wire.
5. Now, shake, rattle and roll the lemon around on the table to get its juices flowing.
6. Get your parent or adult to cut two small slits in each of the lemons, about 1 inch apart.
7. Slide your penny (with wire attached) into the slit in one of the lemons.
8. Place one of the paper clips (with wire attached) into the second slit of the same lemon.
9. Place your last penny into the last open hole.
10. Now connect the free ends of your copper wiresto the digital clock.
11. Watch your digital clock carefully. The electricity from the lemons will turn the clock. If nothing is happening try switching the wires.
12. The chemical reaction between the paper clips, the lemon juice and the pennies push electrons through the wires to form electricity. Since the two metals are different, the electrons get pushed into one direction which flows through the clock and makes it work.
13. Congratulations, you just made a battery out of a lemon! Now let's see you make lemonade out of even the most efficient rechargeable battery.

| I think i've seen this done before. It was really cool! Although it might have been done with potatoes...is that possible? |

| That's really cool. I went to this camp and we made flashlites with only some ingrediants. It worked really well! |

Well, not really ingrediants, more like materials. You just need batteries, thick styrofoam board,normal or LED light, wire and a knife or spoon. you cut a place for the batteries and attach the wire to both the batteries and then to the led light but the two wired can't touch! |
