Give a HOOT about Littering!
Oil Daze Rainforest Rescue
When it comes to swooping in on enemies, Batman or Superwoman could learn a thing or two from the barn owl. Owlman might not have the same ring to it, but don’t let the fluffy exterior fool you.

  • Thanks to their fringed feather tips, barn owls are completely silent in flight.
  • Silent skills help barn owls catch 1,000 mice every year!

Silent flight is no help to the owls when they face off with cars and trucks. Mice love roadside litter like apple cores and smelly food wrappers. While diving for mice at night, owls can be blinded by the headlights of cars and fly right into them.

Unlike other superheroes, owls always end up losing these battles.

Traffic is only one of the challenges barn owls face:

  • Owl habitat is also being destroyed as more farms are bulldozed and barns (their fave hang outs) torn down.
  • Owls sometimes eat mice that have gobbled up poisons or pesticides and get poisoned themselves.
  • Power lines are an everyday obstacle course, sometimes electrocuting them!

These guys can’t seem to catch a break!

  • Barn owls are an endangered species in Canada
  • Scientists think there might only be 1 breeding pair in all of Ontario!

We need to do something or these owls will be disappear! So shake your tail feather and get to work on activities that can help them out!
  • Don’t litter! Even throwing compostable waste out the window is a bad idea.
