Earth Rangers' action projects provide a practical and fun way to enhance students'
knowledge of environmental issues and get them excited about making a difference.
You can find more information about our action projects, related activities and
worksheets at our corporate site. You may also find brief descriptions,
instructions and worksheets for each project below.
Enter your action project data
into the site and have your school’s carbon savings calculated. Once your school
has reached a goal of 20kg of carbon savings (to offset having the Earth Rangers
show come to your school), your school will be entered into a draw to have a special
Earth Rangers Ambassador to come to your school.
By composting, students are diverting materials from landfills and providing nutrient-rich
soil to local habitat. Compost is made up of organic matter that is broken down
by insects and bacteria to create humus, a dark, earthy material. Vermi-composting
is the use of worms to accelerate the compost process.

This project is designed to help students understand the impact of greenhouse gases
and pollution on the environment. Air pollution and climate change contribute to
health problems for Canadians.

Lunches are often goldmines for wastefulness. By reducing waste that is sent to
landfills, students are also helping to reduce the potential leakage of toxic materials
into ground water. By implementing a waste-free lunch, students can take responsibility
for their own actions by analyzing their lunches and developing ideas on how to
reduce their personal garbage consumption.

Many parents do not feel their neighbourhoods are safe enough to allow their children
to walk to school on their own, despite their close proximity to the school. This
results in crowded school parking lots and bus loops while parents drop off and
pick up their children each day.

A large portion of the energy we use at school and home comes from non-renewable
energy sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Burning these fuels creates air
pollution and contributes to climate change. The objective of this project is to
form a patrol that will inspect the school to identify where energy can be conserved.

The objective of this project is to form a Phantom Energy Patrol in your school
that will inspect the school for wasted energy and identify places where energy
can be better used/conserved. Phantom energy is the energy that is used by an appliance
or electronic device that is turned off but still remains plugged into the wall
socket.
