A single porcupine has over 30,000 quills

The North American porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) is the second largest rodent in North America. Their more than 30,000 quills are black with a fringe of white, this colouring stands out, and helps warn predators to stay away. These quills can be deadly for other animals. They have barbs on them that, when stuck in tissue, act to pull the quill further down.
