The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Canada) works to save wildlife and wild lands all across Canada. Since 2004, WCS Canada has been researching how species are threatened by conducting field studies and gathering all kinds of important information that is used to help us better protect the environment.
What can I do?
Earth Rangers and WCS Canada have been teaming up to protect the Woodland caribou. When kids, just like you, started a Bring Back the Wild™ campaign for the Woodland caribou, 50% of the funds raised supported Earth Rangers’ education programs and 50% went to help WCS continue their infield research.
How are you helping the caribou?
Your support helps WCS Canada fly planes over Northern Ontario, which allows them to count and map caribou and their tracks. Donations for this project also go towards locating female caribou through the use of radio-collars, determining whether or not they have calves by their side that have survived since birth. All of these ‘find the caribou’ activities help us learn more about this amazing animal and its home. This information is then used to make better decisions about development projects in the area.
A BIG thanks!
WCS Canada wants to say a BIG ‘thanks’ to all the Earth Rangers who have helped protect this incredible northern animal, and that’s why they are taking you out into caribou territory – online! WCS scientists will be checking in here on the Wild Wire, sharing updates from the field and showing us what life as a Woodland caribou is all about!
