Eco-Activity: Icy Sun Catchers

Are your trees looking a little plain? Maybe your balcony could use a bit of a pick-me-up? Here’s a creative way to spruce up your outdoor space this winter: sustainable sun catchers made with natural ingredients and ICE!

It all begins with a nature walk to forage for a variety of shapes, sizes and colours! Here’s what you can collect to create this cool craft:

1. Grab a small plate or a shallow plastic container on its way to the recycling bin and fill it with water.

2. Place your nature materials in the water and arrange them however you’d like.

3. Grab a long piece of twine or yarn (the thicker the better), fold it in half and place it in the water. Keep the loop part out of the water so it doesn’t get frozen. You’ll use this to hang your creation up later.

4. Leave your creation outside in the cold to let them freeze. If you’re experiencing warmer weather, pop it in the freezer until it’s solid!

5. Hang your creation up and add a little decorative pizazz to your outdoor space!

Whenever your sun catcher melts, the bits and pieces from your creation will fall onto the ground, giving some yummy options for animal foragers in the spring!
