Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)<\/em> is an aquatic salamander that gets its name from the native Aztec language. The word refers to the Aztec god Xolotl. Legend has it that Xolotl transformed himself into an Axolotl to escape banishment.<\/p>\n
