Have you ever headed out to your favourite beach, lake, or\nriver for a day of fun in the sun, only to be shocked by the amount of garbage\nthat\u2019s lying around? It can really put a damper on your day, but for the\nanimals that live there, all that trash is ruining their homes. That\u2019s why it\u2019s\nso important that we do what we can to make sure we keep our favourite shorelines\nclean and healthy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might be thinking, \u201cI already do my part by making sure I\nalways pick up my trash when we leave the beach\u201d, but there\u2019s another sneaky\nsource of shoreline scraps that you may not have thought of: fishing leftovers!\nNot only can animals get tangled in discarded fishing line and nets, they can\nbecome seriously injured if they swallow fishing hooks and lures that look like\ntasty treats. So the next time you head to your favourite fishing hole, keep\nthese tips in mind to make sure you have a responsible day on the water!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the most important thing to remember the next time\nyou\u2019re on the water! Make sure you dispose of bait, fishing line, and other\nmaterials properly. If you\u2019re using lead weights and jigs, these must be\ndisposed of at your local hazardous waste collection centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important to make sure you\u2019re only catching fish that\nare in season, and that also have a healthy population! Check with your region\nbefore you head out so you know what you can and can\u2019t catch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that different rods, tackle, and fishing line\nwork best for different fish? That means you should only be fishing with the\nproper gear designed to catch the fish species that are in season. No matter\nwhen you fish, though, you should always try to use non-lead tackle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
