It\u2019s really important to identify\nand keep track of the living things around us to help scientists protect and\nconserve animals and their homes. Use one of the following ideas to help\nidentify the plant or animal you have found!   \n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask Family & Friends<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Include\nyour family and friends in your Backyard Biologist explorations to help\nidentify the plants and animals you find! Even if they are not entirely\nfamiliar with the plant or animal you have found, discussing your findings can\nhelp narrow down your search. And who knows?! You may even gather enough\ninformation to identify what you\u2019ve found! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s an App for That! <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nSeek app by iNaturalist is free, user-friendly and will quickly and easily\nidentify many living things! Using your device\u2019s camera, the Seek app will draw\non its extensive database to analyze the plant or animal centered on the screen. It will then provide the name of the\nspecies, as well as additional information about it. You can also connect an\niNaturalist account to the app and upload your observations to citizen science\nprojects!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use a Field Guide<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it\ncomes to identifying local plants and animals, guidebooks can be a great\nresource! Hard-copy nature and field guides can easily be found at your local\nbook store or library. There are also many plant and animal identification\nguides available online, like the ones provided below! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
