Where do bees go on vacation? The bee-ch! It\u2019s pollinator season, and our hardworking friends have been keeping busy. After a big day of pollinating far and wide, they\u2019ll need a place to relax\u2026 so why not treat them to something special? For today\u2019s Eco-Activity, we\u2019re making a bee hotel! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For today\u2019s Eco-Activity, we\u2019re creating a mini nature reserve for all those helpful creepy crawlers living in your yard, on your balcony, or outside your building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Check on the dish daily to make sure the water stays full and clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Prepare your container <\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Make sure your container is clean and dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 If it has a lid or spout, ask an adult to help cut off the\ntop part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Decorate the outside of your container. You could paint\nit, cover it in construction paper and stickers\u2026 anything you\u2019d like!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Craft the bee tubes<\/span><\/strong> <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Cut your paper into strips that are as wide as your\ncontainer is deep, and long enough to wrap around your pencil at least 5 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Wrap one paper around your pencil to make a tube. You can\nuse some tape to help it keep its shape. When you take it off the pencil, it\nshould look like a big, thick straw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Continue to make tubes until you can fill most of your\ncontainer with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Make your bee hotel <\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Place the tubes inside your hotel. If you don\u2019t have\nenough tubes to fill it, you can place twigs in any empty spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Cut two pieces of string. They should each be long enough\nto wrap around your hotel twice, with enough left over for you to tie around a\nbranch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Wrap and tie one of your strings around the top of your\nhotel. Do the same with the second one at the bottom. You can add a little glue\nif you want to make them extra secure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Find a nice sunny place for your hotel. Hang it up\nhorizontally so the opening is facing you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, you wait for bee visitors. You might get a few special guests before you know it! <\/strong> <\/h4>\n\n\n\n
