Thanks to amazing kids like you, important conservation work is happening at the Bunchgrass Hills Conservation Area in British Columbia! With your support, scientists and land stewards from the Nature Conservancy of Canada have been busy taking care of one of Canada\u2019s rarest ecosystems: grasslands.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Grasslands are super special, but they\u2019re also in trouble. In fact, less than 1% of B.C.\u2019s natural grasslands are left! That\u2019s why the work you\u2019ve helped support matters so much. Bunchgrass Hills protects more than 6,100 hectares of grasslands, forests, and wetlands that are home to all kinds of wildlife, including the endangered American badger and the threatened Lewis\u2019s Woodpecker.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what\u2019s been happening this year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, scientists went on their own version of nature missions! They explored the land to learn who (and what!) lives there and what habitats need the most care. They found badger dens, woodpecker nesting trees, and even spotted SIX<\/b> different kinds of bumblebees buzzing around – that’s great news for pollinators! These surveys help the team make smart plans to protect animals now and in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next came wetland protection. New fences were built around sensitive streams and wetlands to keep them safe. These fences help plants grow back, keep water cleaner, and create better homes for frogs, birds, and other wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n
