Our work is all about keeping Arctic animals and the people who depend on them safe and healthy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/EN\/CA\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reyd_WalrusUpdate-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612529\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.1473580571053494;width:383px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>One of the projects&nbsp;we\u2019ve&nbsp;been working on focuses on&nbsp;the&nbsp;walrus. By studying&nbsp;walrus&nbsp;samples, we can learn&nbsp;a lot&nbsp;about their health and the environment they live in. This research is&nbsp;really important&nbsp;for northern communities who rely on&nbsp;these&nbsp;animals for&nbsp;food, since&nbsp;they&nbsp;don&#8217;t&nbsp;want to get sick!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/EN\/CA\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_0649-1-1024x766.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612530\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.336644699532628;width:450px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve&nbsp;also been tracking some amazing Arctic birds to see where they travel throughout the&nbsp;year,&nbsp;and their journeys are incredible!&nbsp;Some gulls that breed in Nain&nbsp;flew all the way south to places like Texas and Mexico for the winter.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;a long trip!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also tracked&nbsp;black and white sea birds&nbsp;with bright red feet&nbsp;called&nbsp;guillemots from Nain and Postville,&nbsp;Labrador,&nbsp;and&nbsp;we discovered that&nbsp;they traveled to the Gulf of St. Lawrence&nbsp;on Canada\u2019s east coast. Meanwhile, the&nbsp;common&nbsp;eider made their way to&nbsp;Newfoundland&nbsp;and the Gulf of St. Lawrence too!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/EN\/CA\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reyd_WalrusUpdate2-1-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612531\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">So many birds to observe, measure, and explore!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/EN\/CA\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reyd_WalrusUpdate6-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612532\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.earthrangers.com\/EN\/CA\/wp-content\/uploads\/Reyd_WalrusUpdate5-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-612533\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Another piece of great news: after an oil spill near Postville&nbsp;in 2020,&nbsp;we\u2019ve&nbsp;been carefully checking bird&nbsp;eggs&nbsp;and the levels of oil&nbsp;in them&nbsp;have stayed low.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;great news for&nbsp;not only&nbsp;the birds, but also for the animals like the walrus,&nbsp;and the people who rely on them for traditional food.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite all&nbsp;this great news, the work is never done, and&nbsp;we continue to&nbsp;monitor&nbsp;Arctic wildlife closely.
