Amazing Cicadas

17

There are around 3,000 different species of cicadas, some are annual, meaning they come out every year, and others, like the ones in this video, are periodical, only emerging every 13 or 17 years. These cicadas will wait underground feeding on the fluids from tree roots for years then emerge together, living for only four to six weeks. This video shows the lifecycle of these incredible insects who are not only known for their patience waiting underground, but also for being noisy! Male cicadas make a buzzing and clicking noise, which, when produced by thousands of insects, sounds like a loud hum that can be heard up to a mile away.
