Living Forests Photo Tips

Not sure how to take a good picture, or just want some tips to make your photos better? Our best photographers are on the case! We’ve put together some tips that will help you take the best pictures for the Living Forests Photo Contest. Here are our 5 photo tips for beginners:

1. Look for the Best Light

Head out early in the morning or late in the day when the shadows and contrast will be better for your photos. Pssst! It’s also when you’re more likely to animals.

2. Experiment with Composition

When taking your picture, pay attention to what will be in the background, and where the subject of your photo is. The subject of your picture doesn’t always have to be in the centre. Try taking a few with it off to the side, from different angles and positions.

3. Go Wide and Close

When taking pictures of wildlife, try to show a bit of their environment. Shoot up close if possible, but don’t get too close – they are wild animals, after all. Try to get a picture of the animal looking at you, and look for ways you can capture motion, like birds flying, for example.

4. The Type of Camera Doesn’t Matter

You can capture a great shot with any type of camera, regardless of whether it’s a DSLR, another digital camera, a phone or a tablet.

5. Take LOTS of Pictures!

We mean it! The more pictures you take, the more options you will have to choose from. Take lots of pictures to find out what works and what doesn’t, experiment, practice and learn. Don’t be afraid to try new things and for some extra fun, create a photo challenge with a friend or family member.
