Build a homemade bird feeder and help feed hungry birds. Your Mission:

Mission Objective:

Getting enough food to eat can be a challenge for some birds, especially in the winter. The For the Birds Mission allows kids to help these birds by teaching them how to make seasonally-appropriate bird feeders. Kids can also become citizen scientists by tracking which birds visit their feeder, and find out how outdoor cats can negatively impact bird populations.

To complete this Mission, kids will…

  • Read through the Mission Brief to learn how they can help birds.
  • Build a bird feeder using the instructions in the Mission Brief.
  • Watch for birds as they visit their feeder, recording the ones they see on the “For the Birds” Tracking Sheet.
  • Test their bird knowledge by completing the “For the Birds” quiz.

Mission Items:

When members accept this Mission, they receive a Mission Brief and instructions to make winter and summer bird feeders.
