Lower your carbon footprint by choosing foods grown close to home Your Mission:

Mission Objective:

Did you know the average meal travels a whopping 1,200 km to get from farm to table? This long distance journey releases fossil fuels and requires food to be more processed and refrigerated to stay fresh, which adds up to a considerable carbon footprint. That’s why we’re challenging members to #livelovelocal by choosing foods grown close to home!

To complete this Mission, kids will…

  • Learn more about how where their food comes from contributes to climate change using the information in the Mission Brief
  • Use the tips in the Brief to choose local, or even grow their own food right at home!

Mission Items:

When members accept this Mission, they receive a Mission Brief to help them get started!

What Kids Think:

"We visited our local farmer’s market and bought all our veggies there instead of the grocery store!" Earth Ranger Jay "My mom and I made a peach pie using peaches grown at the farm close to us and it was SO yum!!" Earth Ranger Aneesa "I walked to the grocery store and picked out the fruits that said they were grown in Ontario, where I live!" Earth Ranger Nate

The Earth Rangers App is where kids go to save animals! It’s free to join and you’ll have access to real-world Missions like this one. Plus, you can adopt an animal to support conservation projects, and learn all about animals in the Wild Wire Blog. Accept this Mission and more in the App!
