Happy World Whale Day, Earth Rangers! This year, we’re giving a big splash of appreciation to the beluga whale, one of nature’s coolest cold-water creatures!
Did you know that belugas are covered in a thick layer of fat called blubber that makes up 40% of their total body weight? This special adaptation helps them stay warm in icy Arctic waters and also stores energy for when food is hard to find.

Do the beluga whale wash!
We might not live in the Arctic, but we can still take a page from the beluga’s book by embracing cold water, especially when doing our laundry! Heating water accounts for nearly 90% of the energy used in a single load. That adds up to a lot of greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.

So, be like the beluga and make the switch to cold water washing. You’ll save energy, reduce your carbon footprint, and as a bonus, cold water helps protect fabric colours and prevents clothes from shrinking. It’s a win for you and the planet!
Want to go even further for belugas? You can also learn more about how our beluga adoption program supports their protection in the wild. Head on over to the Earth Rangers Shop to learn more!

Don’t forget to log this habit in the Act Like and Animal Challenge!
