Did you know that belugas are covered in a thick layer of fat called blubber that makes up 40% of their total body weight? This special adaptation helps them stay warm in icy Arctic waters and also stores energy for when food is hard to find.

We might not live in the Arctic, but we can still take a page from the beluga’s book by embracing cold water, especially when doing our laundry! Heating water accounts for nearly 90% of the energy used in a single load. That adds up to a lot of greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change.
