WOODBRIDGE, ON — In partnership with Call2Recycle Canada, Earth Rangers is inviting families across the country to take part in the Battery Blitz Contest, a nationwide effort that encourages kids to safely collect and recycle used household batteries while learning about environmental responsibility.
Batteries power many of the devices we use every day, from toys and flashlights to remote controls. However, when they run out of energy, they should never be thrown in the garbage. Improperly disposed batteries can leak chemicals that pollute soil and water, potentially harming wildlife and natural habitats. In some cases, they can also pose fire risks in waste facilities.
Through the Battery Blitz Contest, Earth Rangers and Call2Recycle Canada aim to turn this challenge into an opportunity for young people to make a positive impact.
Collect, Protect, Drop Off
Participants are encouraged to safely collect used batteries from around their homes, schools, and communities. Families can store the batteries in a designated non-metal container —or create a custom battery collection box — before bringing them to a nearby recycling location.
To help keep the process safe, participants are also encouraged to tape the ends of each battery or place them individually in small plastic bags before transport.
Collected batteries can then be recycled through Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!, a national program that accepts common household batteries under 5 kg, including AA, AAA, C, D, and 9-volt batteries. Click here to find a drop-off location nearest you.
How to Enter
There are two ways for participants to join the contest:
- Complete the Battery Blitz Mission in the Earth Rangers App
- Submit a contest form through the Battery Blitz webpage
Participants simply collect their used batteries, take a photo with their collection, and recycle them at an approved drop-off location.
Prizes for Young Planet Protectors
To celebrate their efforts, participants will have the chance to win exciting prizes. One winner from each Canadian province will receive a $25 Amazon gift card along with an exclusive Earth Rangers and Recycle Your Batteries, Canada swag bag. In addition, one lucky grand prize winner will take home an iPad.
Through the Battery Blitz, kids across Canada are proving that even small actions can make a big difference for the planet.
