Summer is here and it’s time to get Back to Nature!

Nature is so important since it keeps our planet healthy and provides homes for the animals we love. And who doesn’t just feel awesome being outside?! But it feels like people are staying inside now more than ever, and we get it – but nature misses you! That’s why we’re challenging you to get back outside and get Back to Nature!

Your Mission: Create your very own Nature Mission!

Your Nature Mission should be an easy, fun activity meant to get you, your friends, and your family (safely!) outside and back to nature. Up for a challenge? See who can spot the most animal tracks, or flip over rocks to find the most bugs. Maybe you’ll see who can name the most birds outside their window? Try playing “I Spy” and sharing your results with friends and family on a video call or a virtual hangout! The sky’s the limit!

While you’re out creating your Nature Mission, take a minute to think about all the amazing things nature gives us. That’s why it’s so important that we protect it! One of the best ways to do that is with protected greenspaces, and did you know that Ontario is home to one of the world’s largest?!

The Ontario Greenbelt surrounds cities like Hamilton and Toronto, as well as Durham, York, Peel, and Niagara Region. It’s home to 2 million acres of protected forests, wetlands, urban river valleys, and farmlands and was designated in 2005 to help preserve important greenspaces around an area growing really quickly. But it does so much more than that. It creates places to live, work, and play, and it helps keep the outdoors awesome for everyone!

We could go on forever about how awesome the great outdoors is, but we think it’s time to shut off the computer, put down your device, and enjoy all nature has to offer!
