Re-set the ‘Stat this World Energy Saving Day!

Don’t crank that ‘stat!

As the weather gets cooler, it might be tempting for you and your family to crank up the heat in your home in order to stay toasty. But the fact is, most homes are kept warmer than they need to be – and this wastes energy! When we increase the temperature of our thermostat in the fall and winter (or decrease the temperature in the spring and summer), we often end up using more energy than we need trying to find the perfect temp.

Since the energy we use to heat homes often comes from sources like natural gas and electricity that produce greenhouse gases when they’re burned or generated, using too much can hurt the planet through global warming and climate change. That’s why it’s so important to save energy, and a great way to start is by adjusting your thermostat!

It’s cool to be cool!

This World Energy Day, take on the Re-set the ‘Stat Mission! Instead of relying on your thermostat to keep you warm, try bundling up with your fave sweater, a cozy blanket, or some fuzzy socks. Aim to keep your ‘stat around 20 degrees celsius (68 fahrenheit), but even turning it down by 1 degree in the winter can make a difference!

Want to take it a step further? Challenge your friends and family to turn down their ‘stat and host a competition to see who owns the wackiest sweater or silliest socks!

Check out the Re-set the ‘Stat Mission to discover more tips and tricks on how you can become an energy-saving hero during the cooler months of the year!
