Hi Earth Rangers! It’s Sarah here from Nature Conservancy of Canada! I’ve been working on an exciting conservation project at Bunchgrass Hills, just south of Kamloops, BC, where we’re helping protect important wetland habitats for amazing species like North American beaver and the western bumblebee!

Wetlands and creekside (also called riparian) areas are super important since they provide clean water, food, and shelter for wildlife. But when too many animals graze near these areas, it can damage plants and make it harder for ecosystems to stay healthy.

That’s why our team has been working on a smart solution! We’ve installed special off-site watering units for livestock. This means farm animals can still get the water they need without crowding sensitive wetlands. With less pressure, native plants can grow back, the water stays cleaner, and habitats become stronger for the wildlife who rely on them!
The best part? This work supports both nature and people! By partnering with local contractors and ranchers, we’re helping protect wildlife while supporting sustainable ranching and rural communities.

And we’re not stopping there! This year, we’re planning to add another watering unit to protect even more wetland habitats and help these ecosystems stay strong in the face of drought and changing climates.
Projects like this show that when we work together, we can create a future where animals, people, and the planet can all thrive together!
